If life came in a series of flashes then perhaps his life didn't really start before Kaz. Had he the time (or capability) to open his mouth and speak of all the things that have been said and done in eighty years, there's really very little from his childhood and even less from his training to speak of. Things never really started until Kaz, and apparently they ended the same way. Always with that one name.
There's so few memories without him in them that Ventus has to wonder if either of them truly existed before that dirty little child came across a demon, and was brazenly stupid enough to request a wallet back.
Probably not.

His father was a kindly man, but even he had words to say when Ventus had returned home, on foot, all the way from Evre to his home in Micah. But to Ven, the walk had done him some good. He was dry eyed by the time he got home, capable of a smile and a laugh without having to wave away his worries first, because realistically to everyone else there really weren't any worries.
But his first ever rejection came not because of his race, as most expected, but his intended future. As difficult and dangerous as it was to walk all the way home on his own, worse was the look on his mother's face when he'd told the elven council his intention to join a human army.
By the age of fourteen he'd already known that he would never be welcomed nor acknowledged by his mother again.

In Kyrie, his age was common knowledge. But so was the fact that he was the town's baby, and it was more out of the inclination to pander to him (and out of respect to his father, who watched the process with an ever beady eye) that he was snuck into the trials. Of course, no one had really expected him to pass, but that was where the troubles really started.
Having been part of skirmishes before as a drummer boy and messenger, Ven's name was listed in the LoK registry, as well as his true age. The first thing to do was to simply scratch his last name out, hiding under the guise of elven lore and refusing to take on a last name of any variable. It meant not acknowledging his father when he left home and as a side effect, making sure to bring less personal possessions than he might have wished to. A young elf with no tree residency would hardly have the money nor the benefactors to afford goods, or even want them.
88888
Over three hundred boys from Micah and Dome were taken out to a border camp to complete two years of training, with four points at six month intervals for new arrivals to join their ranks, and the undisciplined to leave. Out of his seasonal group, only five boys knew his background. Out of those five, only one was placed into his training platoon.
And as luck would have it, they weren't exactly friends, either. Metz kept the silence well enough, but whenever training paired them up he seemed a little insistent in beating the absolute tar out of Ven, even if the exercise was to coordinate a cohesive battle tactic when outnumbered and surrounded by the enemy.
As the runt of the group, he got this from quite a few people, originally. It wasn't until he'd proven himself in speed that he had any equal ground to the others, and even that could be translated into 'elven breeding'. He wasn't the only half elf to have joined, but he was the only one to be placed in that platoon. Ven would've been willing to bet he wasn't the only one dealing with ostracism, either.
88888
The first time Ven was hit in the ear, it was with a wooden practice sword during sparring. He didn't even scream; one moment he was standing and the weather was awful, the next he was on his back in the medics tent and all the lights were out. The pain hadn't been as blinding as it could have been, thanks to the light mages on duty who actually knew a thing or two when it came to treating an elf, but the embarrassment was still there.
One more thing to set him apart from the other boys. One more weakness. He laid in that bed and stewed over the problem until he couldn't even take his own mind anymore, slipping out in the dark to practice in the rain on his own. The same form, over and over again; left, block. Right. Block. Down, up, block. Left--
It was a sentry that found him and sat him down, lecturing him on the merits of recuperation and knowing the right time to do things, butter fingered brat. The very same sentry also listened patiently to his woes, things he couldn't tell his captain or any other boy in his group, and again, the same sentry slapped a cap over his head and tapped the side of his head a few times with his staff.
Probably could've told him prior to smacking him with the great ugly stick that all regiment hats had a steel lining to avoid arrows piercing a man's skull, but it made the point either way. Faults could be concealed and overcome.
Belatedly, he probably should've thought to ask the man's name.

Game Background:
One Passing Night is a game that takes place within a characters dreams. with a more sandbox feel, it allows for your character to progress through their respective canon whilst havjng the chance for outside influence. With an 'anything goes' philosohy, its up to the mun to decide how the game affects their character, and when. Whilst much of this is covered for Roxas within his au history, personality and abilities section, here's an outline and a few extra paragraphs to round it up as a whole:
-His first non canon friendship with Minato (Persona 3), allowed him to see from an outside perspective, and gave him what he needed most: someone who knew his history and did not judge for it.
-His second non canon friendship with Aerith (Final Fantasy 7) gave him a motherly figure to go to for advice. She encouraged him greatly to reveal his past to Sora, and instructed him on how to manipulate his dreams.
-His third non canon friendship with an alternate Sora prompted him to become more understanding of his own other, taking into account his past and youth. It provided him with the opportunity to protect and advise Sora from a young age, giving him an almost familial bond and relaxing him in regards to the blossoming friendship with his canon counterpart.
-His fourth non canon relationship with canon Axel revealed secrets of his future that he otherwise would not have known- most importantly, Axel's looming demise. It provided a fear and questions that he consciously forces himself to ignore, going against his own character in a huge way.
-his fifth non canon relationship with canon Riku was extremely negative. From the few dreams he was exposed to, Roxas found Riku to be consumed by his own guilt, and unfortunately as a result, his view of Riku is one more inclined to aggression and disgust than prior.
-Finally, his relationship with his own au Sora was structured in many ways through the relations they both had within open with each other, and other people. Together, they developed a strong understanding of one another, the most significant breakthrough being when Roxas showed his memories to Sora through their dreams. And bitch, we did this back in 2011 8]
-Outside of relationships, Roxas has also developed a significant skill in dream manipulation. He has a distinct awareness of dreams and can consciously decide whether to allow another's subconscious to manipulate him to act in a certain role, or personally change the flow of said dream for his own tastes or other's safety. This manipulation goes as far as to rip someone from their own subconscious dreams and into his own, as well as cooperatively construct a dream 'base' with Sora, consisting of a mesh between Twilight Town and Destiny Islands. All of the developed skills within OPN are passive, and have yet to be used to harm others.
Personality:
Roxas, at first glance, is quiet. There’s a constant air of thought about him, something that gets noted as him spacing out more than once, though he also exhibits a sense of confidence; acting and speaking with a decisiveness he likely doesn’t know he even has, predominantly in defence of his friends as shown by his quick reaction when standing up against Seifer and his cronies. He doesn’t exhibit any sense or quality of leadership, though he’s a dogged and strong fighter who gets the job done with whatever method that works. Roxas adapts with extreme ease to physical situations, wielding the Keyblade with a subconscious ease that comes from both remembering Sora’s techniques as well as his past self.
As a Nobody, a being without a heart, Roxas should not have to ability to feel emotions. And yet to Roxas, the concept of a Nobody is foreign. As such, he continues to react emotionally to his environment, forming close bonds with others that he continues to draw on at a daily basis. Subconsciously, the sentiment that Sora portrays within the original game, that friends are his power, is also one that Roxas adapts to well; During Day 4 and 6, when the world is frozen, Roxas calls upon Hayner, Pence and Olette for strength. Despite any misgivings about them being real, Roxas continues to regard them as important-- enough that when Sora awakes within Twilight Town, Roxas’ emotions bleed into him as well.
As Sora’s Nobody specifically, the influence given to Roxas from the get go stems mainly from Organization 13. He’s set apart from the others at the very start of his story, given the rank of Keyblade Wielder and withheld from information that constantly makes what he does know questionable. His inquisitive nature and downright inability, at times, to see the clear and obvious becomes one of his first driving points; his very first Journal Entry in Days emphasises this in how the entry itself is a question; what am I supposed to write in this thing?
Axel becomes an important landmark at this time. As his mentor, Axel becomes a fixation in Roxas’ life and leads him into habitual processes-- such as having ice cream on the clock tower daily. Even in the digital reality, this is something that becomes a fixture in what Roxas does; like any human, he becomes a creature of habit in how he continues to have ice cream with his friends, and routinely updates his journal with simple, thought out entries on questions and answers he’s come across during the day. Very likely, his unabashed nature in regards to asking questions is due to Axel’s ease in taking each query as they come. Within Kingdom Hearts 2, this continues to come into play with Namine, as he questions the nature of his own person and what’s to become of him from there on.
Roxas isn’t without his faults however, and his anger is easily triggered when he feels that he has been slighted in some way, or if another is not being as forthcoming as he would like. The Keyblade and why it’s special triggers him to attack Sora for the information he feels he needs within canon, as well as the influence from both Riku and DiZ which has given Roxas the portrayal of Sora overshadowing his own worth. DiZ also becomes a target of his anger and frustration, causing Roxas to literally scream in rage when his attempts to attack the other turn out to be for naught. His anger has a tendency to stick; it’s not until after fighting Sora, when he feels he has seen precisely what he needs to, that Roxas appears mollified.
To follow with this is the driven nature he shows towards everything he does. This can also be centered with various influences, such as the missions he’s expected to undertake whilst in the Organization. Roxas shows qualities in taking direction rather than leading; within Twilight Town, he allows Hayner to lead and direct the group much as Sora would have deferred to Riku on Destiny islands. He does, however, have a clear dislike to listlessness; his reaction to the idea of a holiday is to simply state “I could deal with a week, maybe.” Roxas is purposeful and prefers to be in motion, rather than relaxing and letting others do his share of what needs to be done.
From a social standpoint, Roxas can be seen to be a little more hesitant than he would in any other field. He constantly fades out of conversations, as shown in Day 1 and 5, when Olette becomes the one to garner his attention. Simple looks seem to pull Roxas away from most of his inattentive thoughts, however, which displays a strong awareness of what’s around him.
A large negative against Roxas is how little interaction he actually does appear to do outside of his own circles. Within Days, his relationships stem from Organization 13, with little exposure to other outside it. The two examples aside are Phil and Genie; one who mistakes him for a trainee, giving him purpose and reason to converse, and the other appearing when Roxas least expects him to. Even within Twilight Town, his interactions with those outside of Hayner, Pence and Olette remain sparse, and generally coincide with him being urged to speak, such as the theft enquiries made on Day 1, or through being antagonized. Even within his own social circle, Roxas can appear hesitant and awkward when faced with making a decision or confrontation, from Hayner’s prodding for his suggestions on what to do, to his inability to explain clearly just what happened on Day 3.
Generally speaking, Roxas is far more normal than others are liable to let him see. He emotes concisely and in the moment, hesitates and reacts; with guilt, happiness and anger. Through the two differing personalities given to him, Roxas evens out between both his Days characteristics and the ones portrayed in Twilight Town; always the same thoughtful and driven child throughout the entirety.
At exactly one year of age, Roxas has a lot of development to go through within the arc of his AU. For a long time, we see Roxas as he showed himself to Sora at The World That Never Was; angry, bitter, and beneath that all, afraid for his continued existence. He joins Sora in his travels with the distinct knowledge that what he is could easily turn his new companions against him, as well as the fact that push come to shove, there will always be a preference and need for Sora over him.
This is reflected within his first post at OPN, where Roxas is in a blank, white room, images of Sora's memories flickering across the walls as Roxas holds the only object that really belongs to him; his diary. His certainty that Sora will continue to overshadow him is a deep rooted issue, one that Roxas only begins to work past once he's had the chance to show his feelings about it.
In fact, during the beginning of his travels with Sora, many of his dreams revolve around his own importance, or his status as a Nobody. The people he meets during this time within said dreams are most influential to his development; first of which being Minato, from Persona 3. Minato becomes his first friend outside of the sphere of Sora's influence, and with him, Roxas considers that he's found someone accepting of the difficult situations that have arisen in Roxas' life. Though their time is sadly cut short (
Another impactful source for Roxas was another Sora from an alternate universe- more specifically, the same AU Sora currently played within Animus. Their meetings helped Roxas understand the variances of multiple realities, as well as exposing him to a Sora at an age that he felt he understood, despite the significant differences between what he knew and the Sora he was faced with. With over a year of interaction, Roxas grew to an almost brotherly affection for someone who was seemingly as down on their luck as he was, and just about as constantly.
The interactions outplayed above, as well as many other relations Roxas developed within OPN allowed him to successfully face his fears and lay his story bare for Sora to hear and see. As a result of this, the two grew from an almost awkward association to something much deeper. With Sora's encouragement, trust and most importantly, understanding to help Roxas forward, he's developed a much greater sense of conscious confidence in who he is and the right he has to be.
With that said, there are still many things that Roxas continues to fret over. Having been forced prior to be less than himself, he is ever wary of internal change, and reacts against changes to his own outlook in a negative manner. He keeps his cards very close to himself, outside of a few people he has become close to; Sora, Aerith, and the alternate Sora to a degree. He strives to live in a more carefree manner, however with the looming threat of the Organisation ever present, his progress in this has been little.
One of the most recent and important effects to Roxas emotionally is the discovery that sometime in his future, Axel dies. Not knowing when or how this event takes place is a source of great distress, and for perhaps the first time, Roxas is actively avoiding the answers that he has easy access to answers for. The tentative restructure of his friendships with Hayner, Pence and Olette is a stark reminder of what it means to lose, and with the bonds he has of such critical importance to him, the toll this situation is having upon him is great.
At this stage of his life, Roxas remains quiet and mostly observant of what occurs around him. He is intensely protective of the bonds that remain open to him, and strives to exist in the now- though so far, that's really not working out for him. At all.
Abilities:
Roxas is a Keybearer, with the distinctive skill of being capable of summoning two keyblades at once. His physical prowess is not to be laughed at; he has and can take out creatures and people much larger than himself. One of his biggest strengths in battle is his speed, and when combined with his almost dogged style of offensive attack, he makes for a particularly formidable enemy.
Outside of sword play, he has also developed a subset of magical skills, most deriving from an elemental foundation. Currently, much of his magic sits at a medium level; Fira, Stopra, Cura, ect. One of the few abilities currently outside of his control is his limit, known as Event Horizon. When done correctly, it allows for a light based attack strike in which his keyblade is inundated with the power of light. Further development will lead to Magic Hour, an ultimate attack that allows him to call down beams of light onto the surrounding enemies. Both moves provide a significant amount of healing to Roxas and his party.
Due to his Au, Roxas is also capable of performing a dual strike limit with Sora, though this will not come into play at Animus. With his previous adventures within OnePassingNight, he has a significant awareness of dreams and the subconscious that guides them, as well as a large capability to manipulate them in various ways, from changing the surrounding environment to forcing his own consciousness to take control.
He hasn't used them as of yet, but there is a possibility that he could regain control of dark corridors if directed to.

Written sample:
He still expects to feel it, from time to time. Weeks have passed, and Roxas is settling, somewhat. Most of his days are still filled with an almost uncontrollable pacing, right up the tower and right back down, over and over until his legs are too tired to do so anymore and his mind is swimming. That's when he feels it worse, that missing something.
Animus was...about as much of a nightmare as one could expect. He's seen some bad things in people's dreams, and this tower of misery certainly fit the bill, but it lacked that heavy sense of someone else's subconscious, crowding into your mind. You weren't a puppet on some strings, acting out a certain part. You didn't wake up in the morning, and there was little you could do to fight it.
There were so many things to worry about. But he missed the dreams. Leaning against the cold, stone walls of the stairwell is a tiny blessing, and soon, the sound of a pen scratching against paper can be heard. The lighting wasn't the best, sure; but when he had to, he could always make his own. And just like a dream, it gave him the comfort of being surprised by someone's presence now and again, even if all he did was smile wanely and pass across a few short words.
It just made him feel...lucid. And in a place like this, it was the little things, like speaking to someone, like walking the same path, over and over, writing in a diary... that kept you sane.
He had too many precious things, inside the tower and out, to lose a hold of that quite yet.
OnePassingNight AU Import History
Jan. 28th, 2013 08:16 amOne Passing Night is a peculiarly crafted game in which the community entries take place during a character's dreams. These dreams may also affect a character's waking life, and as such, the important pieces of Roxas' import history are integrated into the AU as a whole. The outlined plot of this AU was created prior to the release of KH3D, even as far as before the game was even announced, and as such the end of this AU veers greatly in contrast to current KH canon history.

Roxas' story remains the same throughout the entirety of 358/2 Days and the majority of his time in the digital Twilight Town. What occurs differently from canon begins at the end of Day 6, when Sora and Roxas cannot merge fully. This is due to the seed of darkness planted within Sora by Ansem, Seeker of Darkness; during the final fights when Sora was "possessed" by the Guardian multiple times. Their merge is only partially successful, and so when Sora opens his eyes for the first time, Roxas stares right back.
the immediate suspicions of Donald against the 'stranger' are mollified when Sora and Jiminy rationalise that Roxas was the one to wake them up. Unsure of what to say or even what to think at this point, Roxas lets them make their own assumptions and leads the group to Twilight Town when asked. He continues to stick by them until Sora attempts to enter the Usual Spot, refusing to follow and finding himself drawn towards the Sandlot, instead. Seifer confirms his fears of not being recognised, before Sora, Donald and Goofy (well, mostly Sora) drag him away to meet someone very important at the station.
when attacked by the Nobodies, Roxas fights alongside Sora, revealing his status as a Keybearer. The group still winds up in need of rescuing by Mickey who's just as quick about rushing off as his canon counterpart. The only particular difference is a comment directed only at Roxas; "you shouldn't still be here." Its taken different ways by the group; to Roxas, its a chilling confirmation that someone knows exactly what he is with the and what was due to transpire; especially with the addition of Olette's stolen wallet and the blue orb he'd lost after falling from the clock tower. Sora, Donald and Goofy interpret the given facts with a more face value approach; since Roxas is a Wielder, and seemingly knows the king, he must have been purposefully sent to wake them. Confused and overwhelmed, Roxas puts up little fight to their insistence that he join them on the train.
Goodbyes with Hayner, Pence and Olette happen; there's lots of sad and no one notices when Sora and Roxas cry at the same time because this is a cliche AU and we do what we want. Bitches board the train and Sora laments over feeling sad whilst Roxas wonders about his life choices.

At Yen Sid's tower, the group are instructed in regards to their mission- and, their enemies. Compounding with the harsh mindset of DiZ, Roxas is further pushed to believe that as a Nobody, he will never be accepted by Sora or his friends... If he tells them what he is. Whilst Sora goes to get changed, Roxas is left alone with Yen Sid, and the two discuss Roxas' current state, and how he has come to be. In his worry, Roxas does not see the acceptance in Yen Sid's words; "there is a reason for which we exist; all have a purpose."
After Sora has been kitted up, Yen Sid suggests that with a new ally to help them, it could be pertinent for Donald and Goofy to return to their own world for a time. The group separate as a result, with promises to meet at Disney Castle within the month.
Of course, things usually take longer than one expects.
Sora and Roxas essentially take a period of around five weeks to cover the next four canon worlds. It's the beginning of a large arc of character development for Roxas; when faced with the Organisation, the blonde barely holds his ground, the urge to fight his old cohorts rather strong. Eerily, they continue to address Sora and only Sora, leaving Roxas shaken and Sora's distrust of Nobodies very clear. Throughout the following worlds (Land of Dragons, Beast's Castle and the Coliseum respectively) Roxas and Sora learn to form a sense of trust, respect and comradeship for each other; they work well as a whole and become more responsive to each other emotionally. Contrary to DiZ's former sentiment, Roxas is aware of budding emotions. Rage, confusion and fear develop into varying pitches and types, from positive to negative, and the information he has about himself hangs over Roxas like a cloud.
The dreams in OnePassingNight become effective from here. Both he and Sora face dreams of their own, and are involved in each others as well as various people's, including an alternate Sora who Roxas is exposed to many times. Roxas associates and develops relationships with many of these people, and in turn, these relationships and dreams expose his feelings and fears over revealing too much about himself, and encourage him to overcome them.
He suggests to Sora that they take a break before rejoining Donald and Goofy, and with relaxation in mind, they head towards Twilight Town. Three major steps are undertaken during the course of their stay; Roxas visits the Usual Spot with Sora. The two then visit the location of what had been his apartment in digital Twilight Town; a debilitated building that hasn't seen any real use in years. And thirdly, Roxas tells Sora about what he is.

The reaction itself is not positive. Confused and caught in the stereotypes he's been spoken about and exposed to, Sora accuses Roxas of spying. Expecting plenty of harsh words, the accusation catches Roxas off guard; in the ensuing fight he then attempts to leave, Sora chasing him down and forcing the two to work through the issue of their connection slowly. They both come to an understanding as best they can at that time; neither wishes to leave, however, their trust in each other is severely shaken.
The solution comes within their dreams. Roxas exposes Sora to the memories of his past, and what confusion remains between them falls away. They continue their journey to Disney Castle with a steady awareness of their bond, both tentative, but viewing each other by that point as close and valuable friends. They're reunited with Donald and Goofy, and the tentative peace lasts all of 2.5 seconds before shit goes down with the Cornerstone. The two are then split up for e first time since meeting, Roxas swallowing back his own uncertainty to remain back and protect the castle's occupants as the trio rush to find Merlin. During this time, he becomes closer friends with Minnie, her majesty showing an indication that she knows what he is, but providing him with acceptance from an outsider that he so desperately needs.
From here, they venture the world in the placement provided within the game itself. Think Didney with a bit more blonde added and that's essentially it; from arguing over whether you'd want to be a pirate or not, to having finny fun, to yelling at Santa when Roxas doesn't appear on his lists. The most important aspect during this time is Sora and. Roxas' developing control over their dreams within OnePassingNight. They create a base dream, one closely connected to their hearts, which becomes a place of solace for both boys.
Upon their third return to Twilight Town, things take a turn for the worst. Kairi is kidnapped, and Saix addresses Roxas for the first time since leaving the organisation; "your usefulness has expired." Both shaken, they continue their journey, aware and concerned that the Organisation may plan to target Roxas next, and worried about Kairi's whereabouts. Everything goes to shit again in a way the two don't expect.
Axel has been a thought on the back of Roxas' mind up to this stage, and the redhead appears at OnePassingNight with seemingly not recollection of Roxas leaving the Organisation. Sure that the other is fooling himself, Roxas pushes the situation, only to find that in their future, Axel has died. This greatly affects both Roxas and Sora, the blonde breaking his dreams and refusing to sleep for some while.
After the two are exposed to Xaldin's death in Beast's Castle, Roxas finally faces Axel once more and the two come to a tentative resolution. Both Sora and Roxas face the future with a far more grim outlook; it's impossible for either of them to look at the Organisation as just Nobodies, and without knowledge of how and when Axel dies, the urgency of their adventure grows.
And that's where I'm taking this little fucker from BUT IF YOU REALLY WANT MORE TL;DR.
After the events of Kh2, Roxas and Sora take little time in relaxing on the islands. Despite being accepted into Sora's family, Roxas himself finds himself too restless to really relax, and so the two begin to use Radiant Garden as a base of operations whilst exploring and providing help for both new worlds and old.
Trouble arises when Sora comes across a world that shouldn't exist; The W End of the Worlds. There, he's attacked by Ansem, Seeker of Darkness, who has been building the seed of darkness in Sora's heart for the previous year. With little time left before his body is completely taken over control, he returns to Radiant Garden, telling Roxas of the coming danger and asking him to stop Ansem.
Roxas replies by stabbing Sora in the chest with his keyblade. No, really. Sora's heart is released and seemingly lost, and facing down Ansem in his rage, Roxas is unsure as to whether he will make it through alive. Of course he does, because this is a cliche AU, and bitch, the hero always wins. He goes to find Sora in the Chamber of Waking with Ventus and then destati plays and this history is over wow.

Just adding a big tl;dr blurb up here because otherwise the icon displaces the first table; this is not a CR chart. It's very pretty and looks like a CR chart-- but it's actually Roxas' activity for Asgard. Do not be fooled.
I have way too much time on my hands.
