Game Background:
One Passing Night is a game that takes place within a characters dreams. with a more sandbox feel, it allows for your character to progress through their respective canon whilst havjng the chance for outside influence. With an 'anything goes' philosohy, its up to the mun to decide how the game affects their character, and when. Whilst much of this is covered for Roxas within his au history, personality and abilities section, here's an outline and a few extra paragraphs to round it up as a whole:

-His first non canon friendship with Minato (Persona 3), allowed him to see from an outside perspective, and gave him what he needed most: someone who knew his history and did not judge for it.

-His second non canon friendship with Aerith (Final Fantasy 7) gave him a motherly figure to go to for advice. She encouraged him greatly to reveal his past to Sora, and instructed him on how to manipulate his dreams.

-His third non canon friendship with an alternate Sora prompted him to become more understanding of his own other, taking into account his past and youth. It provided him with the opportunity to protect and advise Sora from a young age, giving him an almost familial bond and relaxing him in regards to the blossoming friendship with his canon counterpart.

-His fourth non canon relationship with canon Axel revealed secrets of his future that he otherwise would not have known- most importantly, Axel's looming demise. It provided a fear and questions that he consciously forces himself to ignore, going against his own character in a huge way.

-his fifth non canon relationship with canon Riku was extremely negative. From the few dreams he was exposed to, Roxas found Riku to be consumed by his own guilt, and unfortunately as a result, his view of Riku is one more inclined to aggression and disgust than prior.

-Finally, his relationship with his own au Sora was structured in many ways through the relations they both had within open with each other, and other people. Together, they developed a strong understanding of one another, the most significant breakthrough being when Roxas showed his memories to Sora through their dreams. And bitch, we did this back in 2011 8]

-Outside of relationships, Roxas has also developed a significant skill in dream manipulation. He has a distinct awareness of dreams and can consciously decide whether to allow another's subconscious to manipulate him to act in a certain role, or personally change the flow of said dream for his own tastes or other's safety. This manipulation goes as far as to rip someone from their own subconscious dreams and into his own, as well as cooperatively construct a dream 'base' with Sora, consisting of a mesh between Twilight Town and Destiny Islands. All of the developed skills within OPN are passive, and have yet to be used to harm others.

Personality:
Roxas, at first glance, is quiet. There’s a constant air of thought about him, something that gets noted as him spacing out more than once, though he also exhibits a sense of confidence; acting and speaking with a decisiveness he likely doesn’t know he even has, predominantly in defence of his friends as shown by his quick reaction when standing up against Seifer and his cronies. He doesn’t exhibit any sense or quality of leadership, though he’s a dogged and strong fighter who gets the job done with whatever method that works. Roxas adapts with extreme ease to physical situations, wielding the Keyblade with a subconscious ease that comes from both remembering Sora’s techniques as well as his past self.

As a Nobody, a being without a heart, Roxas should not have to ability to feel emotions. And yet to Roxas, the concept of a Nobody is foreign. As such, he continues to react emotionally to his environment, forming close bonds with others that he continues to draw on at a daily basis. Subconsciously, the sentiment that Sora portrays within the original game, that friends are his power, is also one that Roxas adapts to well; During Day 4 and 6, when the world is frozen, Roxas calls upon Hayner, Pence and Olette for strength. Despite any misgivings about them being real, Roxas continues to regard them as important-- enough that when Sora awakes within Twilight Town, Roxas’ emotions bleed into him as well.

As Sora’s Nobody specifically, the influence given to Roxas from the get go stems mainly from Organization 13. He’s set apart from the others at the very start of his story, given the rank of Keyblade Wielder and withheld from information that constantly makes what he does know questionable. His inquisitive nature and downright inability, at times, to see the clear and obvious becomes one of his first driving points; his very first Journal Entry in Days emphasises this in how the entry itself is a question; what am I supposed to write in this thing?

Axel becomes an important landmark at this time. As his mentor, Axel becomes a fixation in Roxas’ life and leads him into habitual processes-- such as having ice cream on the clock tower daily. Even in the digital reality, this is something that becomes a fixture in what Roxas does; like any human, he becomes a creature of habit in how he continues to have ice cream with his friends, and routinely updates his journal with simple, thought out entries on questions and answers he’s come across during the day. Very likely, his unabashed nature in regards to asking questions is due to Axel’s ease in taking each query as they come. Within Kingdom Hearts 2, this continues to come into play with Namine, as he questions the nature of his own person and what’s to become of him from there on.

Roxas isn’t without his faults however, and his anger is easily triggered when he feels that he has been slighted in some way, or if another is not being as forthcoming as he would like. The Keyblade and why it’s special triggers him to attack Sora for the information he feels he needs within canon, as well as the influence from both Riku and DiZ which has given Roxas the portrayal of Sora overshadowing his own worth. DiZ also becomes a target of his anger and frustration, causing Roxas to literally scream in rage when his attempts to attack the other turn out to be for naught. His anger has a tendency to stick; it’s not until after fighting Sora, when he feels he has seen precisely what he needs to, that Roxas appears mollified.

To follow with this is the driven nature he shows towards everything he does. This can also be centered with various influences, such as the missions he’s expected to undertake whilst in the Organization. Roxas shows qualities in taking direction rather than leading; within Twilight Town, he allows Hayner to lead and direct the group much as Sora would have deferred to Riku on Destiny islands. He does, however, have a clear dislike to listlessness; his reaction to the idea of a holiday is to simply state “I could deal with a week, maybe.” Roxas is purposeful and prefers to be in motion, rather than relaxing and letting others do his share of what needs to be done.

From a social standpoint, Roxas can be seen to be a little more hesitant than he would in any other field. He constantly fades out of conversations, as shown in Day 1 and 5, when Olette becomes the one to garner his attention. Simple looks seem to pull Roxas away from most of his inattentive thoughts, however, which displays a strong awareness of what’s around him.

A large negative against Roxas is how little interaction he actually does appear to do outside of his own circles. Within Days, his relationships stem from Organization 13, with little exposure to other outside it. The two examples aside are Phil and Genie; one who mistakes him for a trainee, giving him purpose and reason to converse, and the other appearing when Roxas least expects him to. Even within Twilight Town, his interactions with those outside of Hayner, Pence and Olette remain sparse, and generally coincide with him being urged to speak, such as the theft enquiries made on Day 1, or through being antagonized. Even within his own social circle, Roxas can appear hesitant and awkward when faced with making a decision or confrontation, from Hayner’s prodding for his suggestions on what to do, to his inability to explain clearly just what happened on Day 3.

Generally speaking, Roxas is far more normal than others are liable to let him see. He emotes concisely and in the moment, hesitates and reacts; with guilt, happiness and anger. Through the two differing personalities given to him, Roxas evens out between both his Days characteristics and the ones portrayed in Twilight Town; always the same thoughtful and driven child throughout the entirety.

At exactly one year of age, Roxas has a lot of development to go through within the arc of his AU. For a long time, we see Roxas as he showed himself to Sora at The World That Never Was; angry, bitter, and beneath that all, afraid for his continued existence. He joins Sora in his travels with the distinct knowledge that what he is could easily turn his new companions against him, as well as the fact that push come to shove, there will always be a preference and need for Sora over him.

This is reflected within his first post at OPN, where Roxas is in a blank, white room, images of Sora's memories flickering across the walls as Roxas holds the only object that really belongs to him; his diary. His certainty that Sora will continue to overshadow him is a deep rooted issue, one that Roxas only begins to work past once he's had the chance to show his feelings about it.

In fact, during the beginning of his travels with Sora, many of his dreams revolve around his own importance, or his status as a Nobody. The people he meets during this time within said dreams are most influential to his development; first of which being Minato, from Persona 3. Minato becomes his first friend outside of the sphere of Sora's influence, and with him, Roxas considers that he's found someone accepting of the difficult situations that have arisen in Roxas' life. Though their time is sadly cut short (Minato dropped hurr) he does open Roxas to the idea of making friends, and that not everyone would judge him for the current reasons he exists.

Another impactful source for Roxas was another Sora from an alternate universe- more specifically, the same AU Sora currently played within Animus. Their meetings helped Roxas understand the variances of multiple realities, as well as exposing him to a Sora at an age that he felt he understood, despite the significant differences between what he knew and the Sora he was faced with. With over a year of interaction, Roxas grew to an almost brotherly affection for someone who was seemingly as down on their luck as he was, and just about as constantly.

The interactions outplayed above, as well as many other relations Roxas developed within OPN allowed him to successfully face his fears and lay his story bare for Sora to hear and see. As a result of this, the two grew from an almost awkward association to something much deeper. With Sora's encouragement, trust and most importantly, understanding to help Roxas forward, he's developed a much greater sense of conscious confidence in who he is and the right he has to be.

With that said, there are still many things that Roxas continues to fret over. Having been forced prior to be less than himself, he is ever wary of internal change, and reacts against changes to his own outlook in a negative manner. He keeps his cards very close to himself, outside of a few people he has become close to; Sora, Aerith, and the alternate Sora to a degree. He strives to live in a more carefree manner, however with the looming threat of the Organisation ever present, his progress in this has been little.

One of the most recent and important effects to Roxas emotionally is the discovery that sometime in his future, Axel dies. Not knowing when or how this event takes place is a source of great distress, and for perhaps the first time, Roxas is actively avoiding the answers that he has easy access to answers for. The tentative restructure of his friendships with Hayner, Pence and Olette is a stark reminder of what it means to lose, and with the bonds he has of such critical importance to him, the toll this situation is having upon him is great.

At this stage of his life, Roxas remains quiet and mostly observant of what occurs around him. He is intensely protective of the bonds that remain open to him, and strives to exist in the now- though so far, that's really not working out for him. At all.

Abilities:
Roxas is a Keybearer, with the distinctive skill of being capable of summoning two keyblades at once. His physical prowess is not to be laughed at; he has and can take out creatures and people much larger than himself. One of his biggest strengths in battle is his speed, and when combined with his almost dogged style of offensive attack, he makes for a particularly formidable enemy.

Outside of sword play, he has also developed a subset of magical skills, most deriving from an elemental foundation. Currently, much of his magic sits at a medium level; Fira, Stopra, Cura, ect. One of the few abilities currently outside of his control is his limit, known as Event Horizon. When done correctly, it allows for a light based attack strike in which his keyblade is inundated with the power of light. Further development will lead to Magic Hour, an ultimate attack that allows him to call down beams of light onto the surrounding enemies. Both moves provide a significant amount of healing to Roxas and his party.

Due to his Au, Roxas is also capable of performing a dual strike limit with Sora, though this will not come into play at Animus. With his previous adventures within OnePassingNight, he has a significant awareness of dreams and the subconscious that guides them, as well as a large capability to manipulate them in various ways, from changing the surrounding environment to forcing his own consciousness to take control.

He hasn't used them as of yet, but there is a possibility that he could regain control of dark corridors if directed to.

Written sample:

He still expects to feel it, from time to time. Weeks have passed, and Roxas is settling, somewhat. Most of his days are still filled with an almost uncontrollable pacing, right up the tower and right back down, over and over until his legs are too tired to do so anymore and his mind is swimming. That's when he feels it worse, that missing something.

Animus was...about as much of a nightmare as one could expect. He's seen some bad things in people's dreams, and this tower of misery certainly fit the bill, but it lacked that heavy sense of someone else's subconscious, crowding into your mind. You weren't a puppet on some strings, acting out a certain part. You didn't wake up in the morning, and there was little you could do to fight it.

There were so many things to worry about. But he missed the dreams. Leaning against the cold, stone walls of the stairwell is a tiny blessing, and soon, the sound of a pen scratching against paper can be heard. The lighting wasn't the best, sure; but when he had to, he could always make his own. And just like a dream, it gave him the comfort of being surprised by someone's presence now and again, even if all he did was smile wanely and pass across a few short words.

It just made him feel...lucid. And in a place like this, it was the little things, like speaking to someone, like walking the same path, over and over, writing in a diary... that kept you sane.

He had too many precious things, inside the tower and out, to lose a hold of that quite yet.
